摘要

The influence of chemically modified starch matrix on absorption behaviour of biocomposites filled with natural fibers was studied. Two kinds of vegetable fibres, i.e., flax and cellulose were applied as fillers. Hydroxypropyl starch and carboxymethylstarch were used as biodegradable thermoplastic matrix. For comparison bioconnposites based on unmodified starch, i.e., corn starch was also prepared. Special emphasis was also given on absorption behavior of biocomposites at different relative humidities (30%, 50%, 75% and 100%) in relation to type of starch matrix. In comparison to native corn starch, the results obtained showed that chemical modification yielded more hydrophobic material. It was found that addition of both natural fibers decreases absorption kinetics of bioconnposites regardless of kind of starch matrix. The results indicate that the moisture absorption behaviour of biocomposites depends on many factors such as humidity, natural fiber loading, chemical modification of starch matrix, matrix fiber interaction.
