3G Oriented Mobile Video Coding Technology

With mobile communication entered the 3G era, among the numerous 3G value-added businesses, mobile video business will become the core applications of 3G business. Video coding technology as the representative of the multimedia technology is the basic technology of mobile business operation. This paper first introduces the development situation of 3G oriented mobile video coding technology and the technical problems it faces. And then, it describes the mobile video coding technology from four aspects which include scalable video coding, video transcoding, multiple description video coding and video coding based on human visual system. At last, we summarize and give the prospect of 3G oriented mobile video coding technology.
