Azobenzamide-based molecular scaffolds viz. (E)-4,4%26apos;(diazene-1,2-diyl)bis(N-pyridin-3-yl)benzamide (1) and (E)-4,40(diazene-1,2-diyl)bis(N-pyridin-4-yl) benzamide (2), yield proteomorphous architectures i.e., secondary %26quot;beta-pleated sheet%26quot; and tertiary %26quot;beta-hairpin%26quot; respectively, that offer %26quot;optical data storage%26quot; competence as a result of reversible light-induced conformational changes in organic solvent.
