摘要

The reaction between insoluble Fe(III) in magnetic nanoparticles and L-ascorbic acid in an aqueous solution was followed through UV-Vis spectroscopy. An exponential increase of water soluble Fe(II) was observed in a reaction mixture at higher temperatures. These results suggest possible harmful effects of widely used magnetic nanoparticles as a MRI contrast agents in combination with overload of organism with ascorbic acid in some specific conditions, like fever of patient. On the other hand, it may partly explain anticancer effects of high doses of ascorbic acid known for a long time in the treatment of some tumours.
