摘要

this article describes and analyzes the behavior of venezuela and merida city consumers, using cross sectional and longitudinal data of households∩ expenditures in five different time periods. in the first section the authors reviewed the previous works on lineal demand systems, as well as some theoretical subjects on them. in the second, based on household data of final consumption expenditures, they identify the characteristics of households∩ budget allocations between 1967 and 2004. then linear expenditure system and seemingly unrelated regression models were estimated using householdˋs budget surveys (hbs) data. finally a short description of households∩ expenditures in 2005 year (using hbs data too) is presented. findings allowed confirming the necessary character of food consumption in the venezuelan case, as well as the fact that households made almost insignificant changes in food expenditures due to income and prices changed along the period under study.
