Pyridinium Ylides as Potential Inhibitors for Glutamate Racemase

Cobalt(II), nickel(II) and copper(II) complexes of 2-(4,4%26apos;-bipyridin-1-ium-1-yl)-1-(4-methoxyphenyl) -3-(naphtalen-1-ylamino)-1,3 dioxopropan-2-ide ligand (Y) were synthesized and analyzed by H-1 NMR, FT-IR, UV-Vis, ESI-MS, Fluorescence Spectroscopy and thermal analysis. RacEa peptide is part of the catalitic site of the glutamate racemase which is an attractive antimicrobial drug target. The Affinity-MS was used for studing the interaction between the ligand Y or the nickel complex of ligand Y and the synthetic RacEa peptide. Only the ligand showed binding to the synthetic RacEa peptide in the presence of dithiothreitol (DTT).
