摘要

The Ripipterygidae is an exclusively Neotropical family of small, grasshopper-like orthopterans. Some aspects about the natural history of the family and genera are known, but some details regarding particular species and groups are still missing. The following species: Ripipteryx aff. nigra, R. aff. saopauliensis, R. carbonaria, R. ecuadoriensis, R. forceps, and R. rivularia, belonging to the species groups Forceps and Limbata-Marginata were observed at least once between 2009 and 2013 in seven departments of Colombia and include new records of distribution in Colombia. The diel activity periods, microhabitats and spatial distribution at the soil level or in the herbaceous layer are described. Contrary to the expected activity periods from dusk or dawn based on previous observations, four of the species were active under direct sun in the early afternoon hours. Species of Forceps group, as well as R. rivularia, were observed in bare clay soil, and R. aff. saopauliensis was found at herbaceous vegetation. Species in the Forceps group all had the same pattern of activity, microhabitat and layer distribution but species of the Limbata-Marginata group differed in activity and microhabitat. Finally, I propose that the differences in natural history between species described here could be classified and used as characters for systematic and taxonomic studies.
