Losartan potassium is an antihypertensive agent that has few side effects as compared to other classes of antihypertensive agents. The objective of the present study was to develop losartan potassium immediate release tablets using wet granulation method and to enhance disintegration and dissolution by adding intra and extragranular sodium lauryl sulfate. The pre- and post-compression parameters were evaluated by USP 34/NF 29 guidelines and by non-pharmacopeial procedures. The dissolution data was subjected to model independent, model dependent, and further evaluated by ANOVA (p = 0.05). All the test formulations (F-0-F-5) and reference formulation (Ref) comply with official specifications. Test formulations disintegrated quickly and showed better dissolution profiles than reference brand. The Weibull model best described the drug released kinetics (R-adjusted(2) = 0.999) followed by First order > Hixon Crowell > Higuchi > Zero order, respectively.
