摘要
Maxwell modelled a ring of Saturn as a collection of n identical unit mass particles, revolving round the planet in a circular orbit. He then showed that this system was stable under planar perturbation provided the condition m>Cn(3) was satisfied, where m was the mass of Saturn and C a constant. We showed how Maxwell's result could be obtained using a set of group character formulas for induced representations established by Mackey.
