摘要

Indirect laser peening is a new approach for surface reforming and characterized by usage of the thin metal sheet onto the substrate surface. The thin metal sheet is used to protect the peened surface from a direct mischief by laser peening and obtain the surface with the new function by reduction of frictional resistance or adhesion of the functional powders and particles on material. Formation of the dimple equivalent to conventional laser peening was confirmed by 3D laser microscope observation. The original surface of the substrate without heat influence was kept by the thin sheet after indirect laser peening. The depth of the dimple increased with increase of laser pulse energy and the number of shots in the suitable peening condition range. However, the thin sheet fractured at the excessive peening condition.
