A Numerical investigation on the hydrodynamic responses to a submerged trapezoid berm using SWASH

摘要

A numerical model is established by SWASH to investigate the hydrodynamic responses to a submerged trapezoid berm. Based on the model output, velocity decomposition technique and Fast Fourier Transform are employed to calculate the odd velocity moments proportional to bed load transport. Results show that berm-induced wave decay is more significant for short waves than long waves along the sloping beach. It is also found in spatial spectra evolution that the structure of bound long wave disappears after the wave breaking and transfer the energy to higher harmonics. By calculating velocity odd moments, insights can be gained that the moving direction of the berm sand would more likely depend on the relative long waves, and the relative short waves are more inclined to reshape the berm. Besides, the bound long wave term of velocity odd moment is responsible for the berm erosion.
