[(CH3)(2)NH2](2)[Co-6(mu(3)-OH)(2)(mu-H2O)(iP)(6)center dot 2.5H(2)O(1), where ip(2-) is the 1, 3-benzenedicarboxylate dianion, has been prepared by the solvothermal self-assembly Of CoCl2 and H(2)ip in N,N'-dimethylfonnamide. Complex 1 contains a rare Co-6(mu-OH)(2)(mu-H2O)(CO2)(12) building block with six crystal lographically distinct cobalt(II) ions, one with a trigonal bipyramidal, two with a pseudotetrahedral, and three with a pseudooctahedral coordination environment; the bridging ip(2)- dianions serve as spacers to yield a unique anionic eight-connected net with 3(6)4(18)5(3)6 topology. The magnetic properties of I indicate that the six cobalt(II) ions are paramagnetic with, at most, very weak intramolecular anti ferromagnetic exchange coupling.
