摘要

Well then where are the atoms? The transmission electron microscopy for the materials chemistry Creation, optimisation or comprehension of the structural mechanisms and properties of the matter, whatever the goal, the chemistry requires a deep knowledge of the atomic structure. The new properties associated with low-dimensional materials, their imperfections and the present trend to reduce the material dimensions in numerous technological applications impose the deciphering of matter at the atomic level. Solving the structure of nanometric-sized complex materials is therefore one of the actual challenges. Among the techniques provided to the chemist, the transmission electron microscopy is the one that reveals this nanoworld through chemical analyses, diffraction and images over a large scale. A few examples are taken in ceramics and thin films materials to illustrate some of the advances in such a quest and their consequences, always source of creativity.
