The red alga Chrysymenia divaricata Durant, described from New York Harbor, is shown to belong to Lomentaria. The binomial Lomentaria divaricata (Durant) M.J. Wynne comb. nov. is proposed. This name includes the taxonomic synonyms L. baileyana (Harvey) Farlow and Chondrothamnion divaricatum Bailey ex Kutzing.
