An indoor experiment was performed to study the heat transfer characteristics of the cylindrical oscillating heat pipe. The experimental results showed that the higher heating power, the better heat transfer performance of the oscillating heat pipe. The heat pipe had the best performance when the inclination angle was of 60°. The effective conductivity was 23406.67 W/(m·K) and the thermal resistance was 0.61 K/W when the inclination angle was 60° and the heating power was 65 W. An outdoor experiment of the evacuated glass tube oscillating heat pipe solar water heater was also performed. The experiment result showed that the average daily efficiency was 56.9% and the average heat loss coefficient was 3.08 W/K. These experiments have confirmed the feasibility for the oscillating heat pipe application in the solar water heater.
