The hydrothermal reaction of a nickel sulfate hexahydrate with 1,3,5-benzenetricarboxylic acid, 4,4'-bipyridine, and naphthalene yields a green needle (2D coordination polymer) formulated as [Ni-2(bpy)(2)(btcH)(2)] (.) (C10H8)(0.75) (.) H2O. This metal organic framework has two kinds of pores which are hydrophobic pores entrapped naphthalene molecules and hydrophilic pores for water molecules.
