摘要
Intestine transplantation remains a formidable clinical and immunologic challenge. With newer immunosuppression and accumulated experience, survival outcomes are improving. The relationship of recipient preexisting conditions with the risk of postoperative events emphasizes the necessity of early referral to expert transplant programs before the onset of life-threatening complications. Improved patient outcomes after intestine and multivisceral transplant will be achieved with increased awareness and knowledge regarding referral criteria, transplant criteria, optimal time for transplantation, and medication regimens.
