Analysis and calculation of municipal solid waste settlement during landfilling

Focus on settlement analysis and calculation of municipal solid waste (MSW) during landfilling. After discussing parameters of PTH creep model of MSW, relation curves between landfilling course and MSW landfill's height are obtained with the creep equation, based on landfilling process and landfilling program of Chongqing Changshengqiao sanitary landfill. Comparing with the method of soil consolidation theory, it is found that parameters selection still lies on experiences in the method of soil consolidation theory; and its hypothesis is not accordance with the practical situation. While all parameters in PTH creep equation can be acquired on an adequate basis by creep compressive test indoor. The results by PTH creep equation indicate that the total settlement of 25.7% occurs during landfilling in Chongqing Changshengqiao waste sanitary landfill. Economic analysis will lead to a wrong conclusion if this datum is ignored while estimating the capability of landfills.
