摘要

Firstly, the diffraction far-field of single-mode fiber is investigated and why it can be approximated by a Gaussian function is analyzed according to the characteristic of beam propagation factor. Then, through researching matching efficiency between the far-field and Gaussian field, an improved definition of divergence half-angle is presented according to the equivalent matching efficiency method and an expression is given based on waveguide parameters; furthermore, a formula of the equivalent matching efficiency divergence half-angle as function of normalized frequency is introduced for the convenience of calculation and the results show that it has a high precision within a reasonable parameter range.
