摘要

During infancy, motor activity plays a decisive role so that children are able to develop themselves appropriate to their age. The characteristic features of developmental coordination disorder are deficits in gross and fine motor skills which make the accomplishment of daily activities more difficult. Furthermore, these deficits have a negative effect on performance at school. The cause of the disorder has not yet been clarified. There is evidence that the symptoms are not restricted to infancy but also appear in adulthood. Normally, impairments in movement are accompanied by a variety of psychosocial problems, including low self-worth as well as social isolation. A comprehensive diagnostic investigation should ensure that children with a developmental coordination disorder are treated adequately so that they can achieve a positive future development.
