摘要

The present study provides a summary of offshore wind power development in India by utilizing daily 6-hourly NCEP-CFSv2 reanalysis wind data and bathymetry data. Geographic Information System (GIS) methodology was adopted in this study. Wind speed, wind power density (WPD), and capacity factor (CF) maps were developed at a height of 80 m above sea level (asl) to understand the spatial distribution of the winds over the exclusive economic zone (EEZ). By utilizing offshore wind resources, India can generate up to similar to 6 times its anticipated requirement of 1915 TWh for the year 2021-2022, which can reduce CO2 emissions up to 104 Mt per year. Outcomes of the present study are expected to be useful for developers, planners, and decision-makers in formulating policies for offshore wind power development in India.
