The raw material of fused zirconia was prepared by melting method in electric arc furnace (EAF), the microwave-absorbing characteristics of fused zirconia in microwave field and the relationships between the microwave frequency and microwave absorbing of fused zirconia were studied, and the temperature curve of fused zirconia heated by microwave was measured. The phase composition and the microstructure of fused zirconia in microwave field were characterized by scanning electron microscope and X-ray diffractrometry. The results indicate that the fused zirconia has good microwave absorption ability. The permittivity of fused zirconia at frequency of 2.45 GHz is 1.112. The average temperature rising velocity is 368.75°C/min when microwave output power is 3 kW. The tape of solid-solution of fused zirconia is confirmed through calculating. The crystal defects, lattice distortion and the oxygen vacancy of fused zirconia can enhance its microwave-absorbing characteristics.
