摘要

Overweight is the most common medical problem seen in primary care practice, affecting over 68% of adults and 31.7% of young people in the US. Obesity affects many organ systems and causes many medical problems. Successful treatment of obesity impacts several chronic diseases. Nevertheless, attention among physicians remains low, although physician acknowledgment of patients' excess weight promotes behavior change. Reasons for this inaction include lack of training in obesity management, time constraints, payment, and clinician attitudes. The most successful treatment is likely to be early intervention, preventing more severe obesity and comorbid conditions.
