Conversation makes one what he is. As the protagonist in Wuthering Heights, Heathcliff’s character was revealed evidently and in his conversation with Mr. Lockwood, the first narrator in the story. According to the Qian Guanlian’s"Three to One"Theory of Pragmatics, the cluster of sighs adhering to the speaker, including the adhering things, facial expression and gestures, voice and breath, takes part in speech events and bring out the pragmatic meanings. Hence Heathcliff’s character can be analyzed from this perspective.
