摘要

The objective of this study is to analyse the most effective mode of measure for hemi-arthroplasty surgery. Four different methods of measurement are considered: Vernier calliper, ring gauge, CT-scan and X-ray. The accuracy and reliability each method is analysed by taking measurements of the femoral head. A sample of 25 femoral heads were used, 14 female and 11 male. Statistical analysis shows that the callipers and ring gauge are the most accurate next to CT and X-ray models, however under sizing within 2 mm of the femoral head shows no definitive harm to a patient. Conclusively the full-circle ring gauge/femoral head template, alongside use of the vacuum test, is the most effective method of measure for the femoral head in a hemi-arthroplasty surgery due to practicality and reliability.
