Atrial fibrillation is the most common arrhythmia. Its prevalence should quadruple by 2050. From the early days of electrocardiography a great attention has been paid to its mechanisms. This has more recently been reinforced by the availability of real cure mostly by catheter ablation techniques. This article deals with the mechanisms of this particularly complex heart rhythm disorder.
