摘要

The dynamic excitation of oscillating rollers causes a fast forwards-backwards-rotation of the oscillating drum. Therefore, the friction between the drum and the surface of the compacted material plays an important role for the compaction performance and makes the drum a wearing part. The assessment of both wear and impact of various machine and process parameters on the wear of the drum is crucial to ensure durable drums and rollers.
A measureable slip value based on experimental field tests and theoretical investigations for evaluating the conditions of contact between the drum and the soil is presented.
The distribution of the relative velocities and the strains in the contact area between drum and soil, which hardly can be measured, are also required for a proper wear assessment. Therefore, a validated numerical model is used to define a wear energy as a reference value of the wear stress. Furthermore, the wear energy is used to assess the impact of various process parameters on the wear of an oscillating drum.
