Heinrich Eduard Herz (1785-1849) was once recognized as one of the most successful Jewish merchants in Prague. The article deals not only with the Herz's personal biography and details from his private life, but also with his professional career in Prague as well as its surroundings, with his public activities and the philanthropic legacy of his whole family. Having come to Bohemia, Herz began to work in the sugar refinery of Zbraslav owned by Anton Richter; later he launched his own business in the town of Libneves (sugar factory) and Prague (sugar refinery).
