摘要

In situ infrared measurements under potential control were carried out in 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate (EMImBF4) room-temperature ionic liquid (IL) using magnetron sputtered Bi films as the working electrodes. Unexpectedly, it was found that the spectra measured with s-polarized light were more intensive and the absorption peaks had a different direction compared to the p-polarized spectra. This work gives a description and an explanation of this phenomenon. Imidazolium cation dimerization was detected at potential E %26lt; -2 V and bismuth oxidation and dissolution at E %26gt; + 0.6 V vs. Ag vertical bar AgCl wire in the same IL.
