Ag2O as Co-Catalyst for Effective Visible Light Photocatalytic Degradation of Phenol on TiO2

Exploring efficiency photocatalysts for phenol degradation has become one of the core issues in photocatalysis field. In this article, we reported Ag2O/TiO2 composites with excellent photocatalytic activity for phenol degradation. The morphology and structure were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, respectively. Photocatalytic activity towards degradation of phenol was evaluated by UV-Vis absorption spectroscopy and electrochemical impedance spectra. Results showed that the introduction of Ag2O significantly enhanced the visible light photocatalytic activity of TiO2. The maximum degradation rate of phenol was about 10.1 times than that of pure TiO2, which was attributed to the large specific surface area in Ag2O/TiO2 composites. The introduction of Ag2O to TiO2 also increased light adsorption and reduced electron-hole pair recombination.
