Facile synthesis of 3-aldehyde-2-substituted thiophenes through Lewis base catalyzed [3+2] cycloaddition of 1,4-dithiane-2,5-diols with ynals

Et3N-catalyzed [3+2] cycloaddition of 1,4-dithiane-2,5-diol with ynal has been developed. This strategy provides a rapid way to synthesize 3-aldehyde-2-substituted thiophene in one portion and the desired products could be obtained in high yields, which contain various functional groups.
