摘要

This article describes on how to determine mechanical properties of structural steels as well as their damage condition in a pre-cracked stage using non-destructive testing (NDT) techniques. The NDT techniques considered include ultrasonics and electromagnetism. Electromagnetism allows structural steels to be differentiated regarding their yield strength while ultrasonics allows stresses to be determined which can then be taken as a basis to get acting (f)orces determined. The SteBLife procedure being presented allows a complete S-N curve to be determined with a single specimen only and when considering NDT techniques even the complete non-linear damage accumulation process can be described. Statistical procedures do complement the evaluation process. The procedures presented do build a basis for a paradigm change in the management of ageing steel infrastructure.
