摘要

The city of Enid, Okla., collects most of its water for public distribution from groundwater. This groundwater is supplied from five wellfields-Enid, Drummond, Cleo Springs, Ringwood, and Ames-covering the Enid Terrace Aquifer, the Drummond Confined Aquifer, and the Cimarron Terrace Aquifer. This research explores nitrate distribution in the aquifer by analyzing trend graphs for the wells and estimating nitrate plumes for the wellfields. The US Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) requires that public water systems not exceed a nitrate concentration that is <= 10 mg/L because nitrate above this level causes Blue Baby Syndrome in infants. Information for this study was provided in the form of sampling data compiled by the city of Enid. These raw data were then analyzed and distilled to determine nitrate existence and extent using USEPA standards. This article presents a methodology to delineate the high nitrate plumes in five wellfields.
