Spare availability is the probability of that a spare is available to replace a failed part at any moment during the mission. Spare availability assessment is an important part of support capability assessment. This paper gives a mathematical spare availability model for systems with various configurations where component lifetime follows exponential distribution. When the system configuration function, system initial status and the mission time are given, this model can be used to calculate the spare availability of different spare support concepts.
