摘要

Laser cladding is a new technology for manufacturing hot forming tools with near-surface cooling channels. In order to do so, cooling channels are milled into the active surface of the tool, covered with thin steel inlays and sealed with several welding layers by laser cladding. The big advantage of the proposed method is the small and constant distance between the cooling channel and the active surface. This lowers the overall thermal resistance between the tool and the part. Further benefits are the applicability of the technique on existing tools and the possibility to combine a base material with dissimilar coating materials. The work at hands shows the basic research on the producibility of near-surface cooling channels by laser cladding. An existing deep drawing tool was chosen to be equipped with a cooling system for the use in hot forming processes. The thermal performance of the punch was simulated with a simplified approach and evaluated during a real hot stamping process.
