摘要

The chalcogenide glass with the composition Ge14Ga3S37 (CdS)3 was prepared by the melt-quenching method. A prominent second harmonic generation (SHG) was observed from the thermally poled sample utilizing the Maker-fringe technique and its mechanism was discussed in detail. (1) Maker-fringe with good symmetry was observed within the thermally poled samples, and the maximum of relative SHG intensities appeared at an incidence angle around ±(40-50) °. (2) The maximum of relative SHG intensities increases gradually with the enhanced temperature together with prolonged time and obtains its maximum lastly. (3) Under the poling condition of 5 kV, 280°C and 30 min, the second-order nonlinear susceptibility, X(2). attains its maximum 4.36 pm/V. (4) Utilizing the model of dipoles, the mechanism of SHG and its dependence on poling voltage and time is elucidated. (5) It was found that the poling effective region is located at a region several microns under surface of anode and the SHG has the good room temperature stability.
