The Malay Version of the Quality-of-Life in Epilepsy Inventory (QOLIE-31 Version): Translation, Validity and Reliability

Objectives: To assess the validity and reliability of the Quality of Life in Epilepsy Inventory (QOLIE-31)- Malay Version.
Material and Method: The original questionnaire of the QOLIE-31 was first translated into Malay and then item comprehension was assessed. Back translation into English and cross-cultural adaptation was conducted. Its reliability was assessed using a sample of epileptic patients aged 15-70 years who attended the neurology clinic of the Department of Neurology, School of Medicine, Universiti Sains Malaysia, Kubang Kerian, Kelantan.
Results: The entire one hundred and five epileptics completed the questionnaire. The internal consistency of each scale is above 0.7.
Conclusion: The QOLIE-31-Malay Version is reliable to be used in Malay epileptics even for the low education epileptics.
