摘要

Floods are among the most widespread natural hazards on Earth, leading huge losses of people's life, property and economic construction. Hence, a realistic threedimensional (3D) visual simulation of flood-inundated process is important for flood control and emergency rescue and disaster relief in important cities and flood diversion areas. In this paper, we presented the principles and methods for the visual simulation of flood propagation, which are based on the three-dimensional geographical information system (GIS) and the virtual reality (VR) technique. According to the calculation results of two-dimensional (2D) shallow water equations, a method is provided for converting 2D flooded numerical results, and the conversion process is given in detail. Meanwhile, a three-dimensional visual simulation system for flood propagation based on ArcGIS globe control is developed, which can provide rapid, intuitive image information of decision support for the flood control and disaster mitigation. Further, the system has been successfully applied in Jingjiang flood diversion and detention area in China.
