A Facile and Efficient Synthesis of Dihydropyrimidinones Catalyzed by CuCl(2) center dot 2H(2)O

The ability of CuCl(2) center dot 2H(2)O as catalyst to promote the Biginelli three component condensation reactions using beta-dicarbonyl compound, urea and different aromatic aldehydes, is described here, via conventional method and under microwave irradiation. The results of both the methods are compared with classical Biginelli reaction. This modified process gives high yield of pure products in shorter reaction time by a simple work-up procedure.
