摘要

The deformation and solidification of a droplet impinging on a flat surface has been studied extensively because of the wide variety of applications pertinent to this process. Tn the present work, predictions of the solidification and deformation behavior of the droplet deposition process obtained with a semi-analytical metal-droplet deposition model and by numerical simulation are compared with available experimental results. Cases with and without solidification are considered. The results provide some insight concerning the validity of the assumptions underlying the various approaches. In general the numerical simulation approach yields very good predictions of the splat deformation and solidification process parameters such as maximum splat radius and solidification time. On the other hand, the semianalytical approach provides a very good qualitative evaluation of the solidification process.
