摘要

Abiotrophia species are nutritionally variant streptococci found in the normal human upper respiratory, urogenital and gastrointestinal flora. Although are known especially as a cause of endocarditis, they may rarely cause other infections. Abiotrophia was reported to cause bacteremia, corneal ulcer, ceratitis, septic arthritis, peritonitis, central nervous system infection and chronic maxillary sinusitis. This case is presented as the patient was over 65 years of age and Abiotrophia defectiva was isolated from the intraabdominal abscess drainage material. We have shown that these bacteria may also cause abdominal infections and we emphasize that the intraabdominal abscess material should be cultured in intraabdominal infections to increase the possibility of definitive diagnosis and treatment of infections caused by rare bacteria such as Abiotrophia defectiva.
