A highly miniaturized and broadband impedance transformer was developed for application to broadband low impedance matching, using a coplanar wave guide employing a periodically arrayed grounded-strip structure (FAGS) on silicon substrate The multi-section transformer was designed using the Chebyshev polynomials design technique for ultra broadband operation Its size is 0 026 m(2) on silicon substrate, which is 8 7 percent of the one fabricated by a conventional coplanar wave guide on silicon substrate The transformer showed good RF performance over an ultra broadband from 8 to 49 5 GHz This miniaturization technique can be used in compound semiconducting and silicon substrates
