摘要

In 1988, Rehage and Hoffmann observed two characteristic maxima in the zero shear viscosity for worm-like micelle (WLM) formed by the combination of a fixed concentration of cetylpyridinium chloride (CPyCl) with different proportions of salicylate. Fundamentally, the behavior is associated with the balance of charge between the surfactant and the aromatic anion. In this paper, the same approach was used to investigate the rheological behavior of WLM formed when solutions of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (C(16)TAB) and ortho-hydroxycinnamate (OHCA) are combined. This co-solute has two ionizable groups, with pKas of 4.15 and 9.71. In order to verify the influence of the two ionic forms of OHCA on the rheological behavior, solutions of C(16)TAB and OHCA were studied on three pHs, 7, 8, and 9. The results are analyzed by considering the reptation and breaking-recombination mechanisms.
