A reduced model for the microwave heating of a thin ceramic slab in a multimode TEN03 cavity is introduced and analysed. The model is given by simplification of the microwave power deposition term of a more realistic model when (i) the exact modal structure of the cavity%26apos;s electric field energy density is replaced by Dirac delta functions that are centred on the energy density maxima, and (ii) the effects of non-linear radiative heat loss are neglected. Steady-state solutions of the reduced model and their linear stability properties are given by exact, closed-form expressions.
