摘要
Lobelia exaltata Pohl. is popularly known in Brazil as "lobelia" and "arrebenta-cavalos". It has been used in folk medicine to treat cardiac problems. The present study investigated morpho-anatomy and preliminary phytochemistry characteristics of the leaves and stems of L. exaltata for quality control purposes. The plant material was processed according to standard methods of light, scanning electron microscopy and chemical analysis. L. exaltata has leaves which are sessile and lanceolate in form. The foliar blade has a thin and striate cuticle, anisocytic stomata, and dorsiventral mesophyll. Laticifers associated with the phloem are encountered in the leaves and stems. The extracts revealed the presence of alkaloids, flavonoids, steroids/triterpenes, amino groups, tannins, and fixed acids. The physicochemical analyses resulted in a total ash content of 6.12% and a humidity of 15.71%. These results contribute to the process of standardizing the quality parameters of the species L. exaltata and encourage other studies of the taxon.
