Tungsten ionic liquid [(CH3)N(n-C8H17)(3)](2)W2O11 was synthesised and characterised, which has been extended to new families and generations of functionalised ionic liquids (ILs). Experiment shows that it has good catalytic effect with cyclooctene either by urea hydrogen peroxide (UHP) or H2O2 as oxidant. The yields are more than 99% after 4 h when using UHP as oxidant. The system also has some catalytic effect on the epoxidation of other olefins.
