The three independent organic molecules of 3,5-dinitropyridin4(1H)-one monohydrate, C(5)H(3)N(3)O(5)center dot H(2)O, each feature an N-H center dot center dot center dot O(water) hydrogen bond. Each water molecule serves as hydrogen-bond donor to two carbonyl O atoms; these hydrogen bonds give rise to a layer motif. Two of the three formula units lie on special positions of site symmetry 2.
