摘要

Purpose of the study. To assess the prevalence of musculoskeletal disorders of the upper limb (MSD-UL) in a prison clothing workshop compared to civilian clothing workshop. Method. Administration of a questionnaire about pain experienced by workers and the characteristics of the workplace, and achievement of a standardized clinical examination looking for MSD-UL. Results. We found a greater prevalence of certain MSD-UL (de Quervain tenosynovitis, hand and fingers extensor tendonitis) and of certain organizational, biomechanical and psychosocial risk factors in the prison workshop. Discussion. Working allows inmates to meet their needs. It is a contributing factor to their rehabilitation. They are not subject to labor law and do not benefit from occupational health preventive medicine. However, communication with officials of prison workshops is desirable to raise awareness of risk factors at work. In the same way, the reporting of occupational diseases should be systematic and could provide an overview of occupational health of inmates Cooperation between health professionals involved in detention seems necessary to allow a return to work in optimal conditions in case of sick leave. Finally, a work of primary prevention concerning the study of workstations is necessary to reduce the prevalence of MSD-UL.
