To meet the need of long-distance power transmission and load increase of East China, the ultra high voltage direct current transmission (UHVDC) technology and multi-infeed HVDC power into load center are implemented. Substantial issues were proposed for power system operation and planning, however, power/voltage stability of multi-infeed HVDC system is one of them. Previously, maximum available power (MAP) study is mainly on MAP of single infeed system and/or each DC circuit in multi infeed system. However, the aggregate maximum DC available power of the whole region has not been explored. The paper established the generalized multi-infeed HVDC system model, proposed the meaning of regional aggregate MAP, used gradient method to solve the maximum transmission power. Furthermore, the links between maximum transmission power solution and the traditional critical multi-infeed short circuit ratio were established by matrix transformation technique. The research results provide theoretical support for related concepts and conclusions, give new method for the analysis and adjustment strategy of the maximum transmission power of a regional multi-infeed DC, and play a guiding role in the optimization of DC layout in planning stage.
