Alkoxylation of camphene catalyzed by cation exchange resins

摘要

Methoxylation of camphene was carried out in a 500 mL stirred reactor by using cation exchange resins as catalysts. The effects of various parameters including agitation speed, catalyst type, initial reactants amount and reaction temperature on the yield of isobomyl methyl ether were investigated to optimize the reaction conditions. The equilibrium constants based on activities for the methoxylation of camphene catalyzed by Lewatit 2620 from 318.15 to 338.15 K were calculated. The enthalpy changes demonstrated that the reaction was exothermic. Moreover, the kinetics of the methoxylation reaction were also derived and the experimental data were well correlated with a pseudohomogeneous model. Scale-up trial was also performed in a 5 L stirred tank reactor under the optimized conditions, showing good feasibility for industrial production. In addition, the alkoxylation of camphene with other alcohols consisting of 2-6 carbon atoms was studied to explore the impact of the alcohols' structure.
